Conquering Hibok-Hibok: A Bohol Eagles Mountaineering Society (BEMS) Adventure

The call of Mount Hibok-Hibok, Camiguin Island’s majestic and active volcano, echoed across the Bohol Sea, beckoning the Bohol Eagles Mountaineering Society (BEMS) Team for an unforgettable expedition. What followed was a two-day, two-night journey of grit, breathtaking scenery, and the sweet reward of geothermal relaxation.

Our adventure kicked off on Day 1, with the BEMS team sailing from Bohol to the enchanting shores of Camiguin. Upon arrival, we settled into our rest house in Barangay Yumbing, where we spent our first night, anticipating the climb ahead.

The Ascent: Yumbing Trail and Nature’s Bounty

Early on Day 2, with spirits high and packs on our backs, we began our ascent from the rest house via the challenging Yumbing trail. This route, known for its steep and rocky sections, offered an immersive experience through Camiguin’s lush volcanic landscape. Despite our heavy loads, the team pushed forward, making several stops not just to catch our breath, but to marvel at the abundant wild flowers and even sample some of the delicious berries growing along the path – a true taste of the island’s natural bounty.

As the sun began to set, we reached the summit of Mount Hibok-Hibok, a monumental achievement that filled us with a profound sense of accomplishment. We set up camp, ready to spend our second night under the vast, star-lit sky at the peak. The crisp mountain air and the panoramic views, even in the dim light, were our well-deserved reward.

Descent to Relaxation: Ardent Hot Spring’s Embrace

Day 3 dawned with a stunning sunrise over the island. After a quick breakfast and packing up our camp, we began our descent, traversing towards the famous Ardent Hot Spring. This leg of the journey was a test of endurance, but the thought of the therapeutic waters awaiting us spurred us on.

Upon reaching Ardent Hot Spring, the relief was palpable. We plunged into the warm, mineral-rich pools, where the water temperature, ranging from 30-40 degrees Celsius, was pure bliss for our tired muscles and aching joints. These geothermal waters, emanating from the very volcano we had just conquered, are renowned for their healing properties, providing the perfect post-climb rejuvenation.

After soaking away the fatigue and soaking in the serene ambiance, we prepared for our departure. With renewed energy and indelible memories, we boarded the Oceanjet, sailing back to Bohol, leaving Camiguin with a shared sense of triumph and an even stronger bond within the BEMS team.
